Združenje slovenskih katoliških skavtinj in skavtov

Structure and membership

Members, depending on their age, make an oath to join the world guide and scout family. Members are between 8 and 21 years of age, who can later become leaders and trainers.

  • Cub Guides and Cub Scouts (8-10) Their imaginative place of education is the Jungle, with their own promise, law and scarf. The education program is based on R. Kiplings´- Jungle Book.
  • Guides and Scouts (11-15) Explore and observe nature, through camping in single sex patrols. They are united in a mixed troop.
  • Rovers and Rangers (16-21) They begin with novitiate, which lasts one year and is the preparation for the Clan. Their main elements are path, community and service.
  • Leaders and adults (over 21) Work as guide and scout leaders or run different projects. They can also be trainers for the organization or for the community. ZSKSS has its own training school. The average age of adult leaders is 24.

All our members wear uniforms in the colour of a unique Slovenian wild flower called Kranjska lilija (Lily of Carniola). The colour of the uniform is deep orange. Members of each local unit wear a different scarf, which represents its uniqueness and reflects local elements.

The guide and scout method

Through the guide and scout method, promise, scout laws and values we aim to ensure that each member acknowledges his/her responsibility for personal growth, solidarity towards the others, service and active commitment to the society. Most of the activities are carried out as group projects. International dimension, spirituality and life in nature give additional content to the guide and scout method.

Spirituality

The spiritual dimension is based on the Catholic religion. We believe that spirituality strengthens and enriches the life of an individual that looks for sincerity in relationships, an inner life and solidarity. Spirituality gives a young person a sense of strength and direction and enables them to live a life of simplicity within every day’s complex and challenging world. We include spirituality in our activities in a simple and approachable way. That is by simply living it.

International dimension

We are aware that millions of guides and scouts all over the world are our sisters and brothers and that we can build a better world, not as individuals, but only if joined together. Bi-Pi´s idea of world sisterhood and brotherhood has an important part in our educational process. We would like every member to experience an international dimension, which helps individuals in their personal growth, through the awareness of the differences among people and the issues of the world today.

Sustainability and ecology

We face the world's sustainability problems with the attitude that we are here to leave the world a better place than the one we have received. Environmental education takes an important role in the organization. We want to build a responsible and critical individual, who is aware of the problems of the world, and who takes an active role in environmental issues.
